Abstract

In this paper, we investigate several means of visualizing both ambient and speech sounds and present a fusion of different visualization displays into one program package that would help provide the hearing impaired with a means to an enhanced awareness of their surroundings. The ideas investigated were implemented in software, and the program was evaluated by means of a survey conducted in a school for the deaf.
